TrevorColeman
Biography
Trevor Coleman was born in 1936 in Johannesburg. His works have
been widely exhibited in South Africa and his paintings can be found
in both private and corporate collections. Trevor Coleman visits a
different country every year and spends time observing and absorbing
the textures, shapes and colours around him and gains inspiration
for his paintings. He has travelled to many countries in Asia and,
Africa, to places like Ivory Coast, Mali, Senegal, Morocco, Tunisia
and Zanzibar.
He likes to explore the quality of the daily lives of the people
themselves and translate that into the emotional fibre of colour. He
captures the essence of images and atmosphere using combinations of
pure, bold colour. Trevor Coleman's artistic philosophy is based on
a simple premise. His mind seizes upon a geographical location,
determines which destination most aptly translates his most recent
vision and then sets off on a journey of both literal and figurative
proportions. The result: painterly creations that throb and glow
with life of their own. The search for the "different",
the "other", has been the primary motivating force behind
Trevor's frequent voyages of discovery to some of the most exotic
places on earth.
Trevor Coleman is inspired by colour, specifically the colours of
Africa, its landscapes, its people and its art.
