IsaacSithole
Biography
Isaac was borne in Maputo, Mocambique in 1974 in a family with no
artistic background, but this did not discourage Isaac from
following his dream of becoming an artist. At the age of 12, he
started learning the art of woodcarving through other wood carvers
in his area. Later he moved to South Africa with a friend. Slowly
developing his talent, he worked as a professional woodcarver
producing sculpture. He also discovered woodcut printing, a medium
that he excels in.
He is currently working with colour reduction woodcut techniques,
This involves cutting away at the woodblock each time the colour is
printed. He makes small editions and uses glowing colour
combinations to depict the message and mood of the print.
Isaac is inspired by daily and cultural events in the lives of
the village people. He is sensitive to cultural and historical
events.
He also depicts animals and birds in highly decrative settings,
of plants and the landscape.
"I am inspired by the beauty in the ordinary, to transform
the spirit of the living into art." - Isaac Sithole
