ARTex
ARTex launches in South Africa on 2 March 2012.
The first ARTex will be held at the prestigious Legacy's Da Vinci
Hotel and Penthouse Suites, who are sponsors of the venue. Group
CEO, Bart Dorrestein, is well known as being a true champion of
South African ARTists.
ARTex is the brainchild of Carol Hogarth, the founder of Art
Afrique. After living overseas and working in the arts for a long
time, she has undertaken several prestigious art projects both
abroad and in South Africa and has gained valuable experience in the
art field. Therefore, with her background and experience, and after
having visited local ART FAIRS and ART FAIRS in the UK,
she believed that what South Africa needs, is an ART FOR ALL FAIR.
The purpose of the fair is to offer affordable art and by doing
so, broaden the art buying market at grass roots level and thus
attract a wider audience of art lovers and investors. This will also
provide emerging artists a platform from which to gain exposure and
to be bought and collected. It has been proven overseas that such
fairs give emerging artists exposure to the public and they gain the
confidence and encouragement to pursue their passion and has even
accelerated their career in art.
"Middle of the road" galleries will also have a
opportunity to exhibit and promote themselves and the artists they
support to a more national audience.
The first ARTex will be in Johannesburg but the following year
there will be one in Johannesburg and one in Cape Town.
With an impressive Steering Committee featuring Nicola Hatfield,
founder of Decorex; David Koloane, the Grandfather of South African
Art and one of the founders of the Bag Factory; Bart Dorrestein, an
influential businessman; Rod Stevens, award winning architect from
Blueprint and designer of the Cape Town airport, and Alfred Kumalo,
one of South Africa's top photographers, the ARTex FAIR is
going to be a huge crowd puller.
